About the Chalice
Pine Valley Christian Church is proud to use the official logo of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as our point of identification.
The logo is comprised of a red chalice, with the white cross of St. Andrew superimposed.
This emblem was adopted officially to represent some of the history and goals of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and is trademarked through the U.S. Patent Office.
The chalice points to the centrality of the Lord’s Supper in the
life and worship of the Disciples. The Cross of St. Andrew, national cross of Scotland,
focuses attention on the Presbyterian roots of the Disciples. St. Andrew has been identified with the laity and with evangelism, both of which have been prominent Disciples’ emphases.
The color red signifies vitality, spirit and sacrifice.

Trivia
The cross of St. Andrew is X-shaped, based on a tradition that relates how Andrew
did not feel worthy to be crucified on the same form of cross as Jesus was.
Andrew, with a zeal for evangelism, became the patron saint of Scotland. This symbolism
focuses on the Scot/Irish roots of Thomas and Alexander Campbell,
the early leaders of the Christian/Disciple movement in 18th century America.
