In the News!

From Kansas Interfaith Action and Rabbi Moti – Below are a few hearings going on this week that you might be interested in knowing the results:

Tues. Feb 13 Concealed carry reciprocity (HB 2042) and restrictions on gun ownership by domestic violence violators (HB 2145)
Senate Fed & State Committee – The Senate Committee takes up 2 bills that were passed by the House. On 2042 we’ve revised our line: vote for the Aurand Amendment, and against the underlying bill. Access to bodycam footage (HB 2571) – House Judiciary Committee – It’s very hard to get bodycam footage released, which can be significant in cases of police violence. There was a recent case in Topeka where it was very hard for the family to access the bodycam footage. This bill would ease the process for release of such footage, limiting delays and expanding the number of relatives eligible to receive such information.

Wed. Feb 14 – Medicaid Expansion (SB 38)
Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee – This is the hearing we’ve been waiting for on KanCare expansion. A number of legislators have remarked to me that the energy on this issue seems to be down this year, so it’s really important that we get a room full of energized people to this hearing.
