Through our relationship with two native social-activist siblings in Malawi, Pine Valley Disciples are supporting the feeding of near-starving young children. The The UN tells us that Malawian crop harvests for 2008 will be far below 2007 due to the many natural disasters plaguing Malawi. Often, our payment for food provides the only meal some children receive in a given day. Many of these children are orphans due to HIV/AIDS.

By the end of 2007, the UN Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS reports that 91,000 children in Malawi were living with HIV, and over half a million children had been orphaned by AIDS.12 [more...]

Come celebrate as we proclaim our love for these, some of the least of God's children, with a meal of Malawian dishes and African music. Join us for a taste of the culture and society that is called "The Warm Heart of Africa," Malawi.

In further support of environmental awareness to help offset some of the climate change that is devastating the population of Malawi and elsewhere in Africa and the world, this event will be be conducted in a sustainable and "green" manner. We will be serving using chinaware, glassware, and stainless utensils, with accompanying cloth table covers and napkins.

in Malawi, Africa

The Republic of Malawi is in southeastern Africa. Lake Malawi borders the country on the east, with Zambia to the NW, Tanzania to the NE, and Mozambique on the other borders. With high infant mortality rates and a life expectancy of only 43 years, disease and hunger are rampant. The per capita income is $800 annually, making Malawi one of the poorest nations on the planet. Pine Valley Christian Church in Wichita, Kansas, established a relationship with Malawi through two sisters who work tirelessly to bring health and hope to the people of Malawi. The Honorable Gertrude Mhango, a pharmacist and member of the Malawian Parliament, and her sister Dr. Kholiwe Mkandawire, a veterinarian, established a feeding program for school children in 2005.

Tourist Map of Malawi The program provides hundreds of children with porridge of maize and soya powder, sometimes the only meal the children receive each day. In addition to the children’s food program, on-going efforts include: planting of fruit trees, education, and providing for other urgent needs.
